Job Summary
A public university is seeking a Lecturer in Anaesthesia (Salary Scale PU6.1TSC, Ref: EXT AD 09/2/2026) for its Department of Surgical Services. Applicants must hold a PhD in Anesthesia or a Master's degree in Clinical Sciences, demonstrate proven scholarly research capability, and possess strong computer and communication skills
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Medical Instruction & Clinical Education
- Lecture & Seminar Delivery: Prepare and deliver well-structured lectures, practical seminars, and clinical tutorials to undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents/fellows in anaesthesiology and perioperative care.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Set, invigilate, mark, compile, and grade coursework, clinical assessments, tests, and formal university examinations while delivering constructive academic feedback.
- Student Guidance & Mentorship: Guide students on academic performance, address non-academic challenges, and refer students needing specialized counseling to university guidance services.
2. Clinical Research & Student Supervision
- Medical & Scholarly Research: Conduct high-quality clinical and translational research in anaesthesia, pain management, or critical care, disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications, seminars, and medical conferences.
- Research Project Supervision: Supervise undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents undertaking research dissertations and clinical projects.
3. Departmental Administration & Public Service
- Departmental Administration: Carry out official administrative duties within the Department of Surgical Services as assigned by the Head of Department.
- Community & Clinical Service: Contribute to the university, health system, and wider society through community outreach, clinical care delivery, and professional healthcare initiatives.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Academic Credentials & Qualifications
- Academic/Clinical Qualification: Earned PhD in Anesthesia OR a Master's degree in Clinical Sciences (e.g., MMed in Anaesthesiology or equivalent) from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Scholarly Research Capability: Proven and demonstrated ability to conduct medical/scholarly research and publish findings.
- Technical & Soft Skills: Computer literacy, excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills, and the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team and network with peers.
