Job Summary
A public university is seeking a Lecturer in Law (Salary Scale PU6.1TNSC, Ref: EXT AD 07/2/2026) for its Faculty of Law. Applicants must hold a PhD in Law, possess at least 2 years of university teaching experience as an Assistant Lecturer, and demonstrate scholarly research capability. Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Academic Instruction & Legal Pedagogy
- Lecture & Seminar Delivery: Prepare and deliver well-structured lectures, seminars, and tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate law students across core legal subjects.
- Assessment & Examination: Set, invigilate, mark, compile, and grade coursework, tests, and formal university examinations while delivering timely academic feedback.
- Student Advisory & Mentorship: Guide and advise law students on academic performance, address non-academic challenges, and refer students requiring specialized counseling to appropriate university resources.
2. Scholarly Research & Student Supervision
- Legal Research: Conduct high-quality legal research, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at academic conferences and seminars.
- Research Supervision: Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate law students undertaking research projects, dissertations, and legal writing.
3. Departmental Administration & Community Outreach
- Administrative Engagement: Execute official administrative tasks and departmental duties as directed by the Head of Department in the Faculty of Law.
- Community Service: Contribute to the university and wider society through pro bono initiatives, legal aid advisory, public interest engagement, and community service.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Academic Credentials & Experience
- Terminal Degree: Earned PhD in Law (or a relevant legal discipline) from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Teaching Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of university teaching experience at the level of Assistant Lecturer gained from a recognized higher education institution.
- Research Capability: Proven and demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly legal research and publish findings.
- Professional & Technical Competencies: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to collaborate in team settings and network with like-minded legal scholars.
- Public Service Record: Documented, good track record of active service to the public.
