Job Summary
A public university is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering specializing in Structural Engineering (Salary Scale PU5TSC, Ref: EXT AD 03/2/2026). Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Academic Instruction & Assessment
- Lecture & Tutorial Delivery: Prepare well-researched lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions in structural engineering subjects for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Examination Management: Set, invigilate, mark, compile, and grade coursework, tests, and university examinations with timely, constructive student feedback.
- Academic Advising: Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students on academic performance, research ethics, and professional development.
2. Research, Publishing & Graduate Supervision
- Structural Engineering Research: Conduct rigorous scientific research in structural engineering, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at academic conferences and seminars.
- Postgraduate Supervision: Guide and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking research projects and dissertations to completion.
3. Departmental Administration & Public Service
- Administrative Support: Carry out official administrative duties within the Department of Civil Engineering as assigned by the Head of Department.
- Community Service: Contribute engineering expertise to university initiatives and broader public service projects.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Academic Credentials & Experience
- Terminal Degree: Earned PhD in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Teaching Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at a recognized university or higher learning institution.
- Lecturer Rank Tenure: At least three (3) years of service at the rank of Lecturer.
- Technical Competence: Proven computer literacy and familiarity with structural engineering computational tools.
- Public Service Record: Demonstrated track record of service to the public and engineering community.
Publishing & Student Supervision Thresholds
- Journal Publications: At least three (3) publications in peer-reviewed journals within the structural engineering specialization published since promotion to Lecturer.
- Graduate Supervision: Documented supervision of at least three (3) graduate students to successful thesis completion since promotion to Lecturer.
