Job Summary
A public university is seeking an Assistant Sports Officer for University Health Services. Applicants must hold a relevant degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or related fields, possess coaching credentials in at least one game, and demonstrate high integrity. Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Athletic Coaching, Conditioning & Welfare
- Team Coaching & Training: Assist in coaching university athletic teams in specialized fields, conducting physical conditioning drills, and preparing student-athletes for national, regional, and international competitions.
- Health & Medical Coordination: Monitor athlete physical conditions and report injuries, fatigue, or health concerns promptly to the university medical team for treatment.
- Student Welfare Management: Manage food, accommodation, transport, and overall welfare requirements for university sports teams during training sessions and tournament outings.
2. Program Execution & Event Logistics
- Recreational Planning: Implement broad recreational and fitness programs for the general university student body and staff.
- Tournament Organization: Support the planning, scheduling, and operational execution of campus sports tournaments, intramural games, and inter-university friendlies.
- Kit & Equipment Control: Oversee inventory, distribution, cleaning, and safe storage of training kits, match gear, and sports equipment.
3. Facilities & Staff Supervision
- Grounds Maintenance Support: Supervise support staff, groundskeepers, and facility attendants responsible for maintaining sports fields, courts, and gym facilities.
- General Administrative Support: Carry out additional official athletic and departmental tasks assigned by the Sports Officer or Head of Department.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Credentials & Competencies
- Undergraduate Degree: Earned Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in any of the following disciplines:
- Sports Science
- Physical Education
- Education
- Sport and Exercise Psychology
- Sports Management
- Biological Sciences
- Coaching Credentials: Certified coaching qualification (accredited license/certificate) in at least one major sport (e.g., Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, Netball, Rugby, Swimming).
- Work Experience: Prior practical experience coaching or managing sports programs with university students or youth teams is an added advantage.
- Personal Attributes: High moral character, unquestionable integrity, strong leadership drive, and excellent communication skills.
