Job Summary
A public university is seeking a Professor of Law for its Faculty of Law. Applicants must hold a PhD in Law, have 7+ years higher education experience (with 3 years as Associate Professor), 7 peer-reviewed publications since last promotion (first author on 50%+), and supervised 5 Master's graduates. Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership, Instruction & Mentorship
- Faculty Leadership: Provide academic vision, strategic direction, and professional mentorship across the Faculty of Law.
- Lecture & Seminar Delivery: Prepare and deliver advanced legal lectures, seminars, and tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate law students.
- Inaugural Address: Deliver a formal inaugural lecture in the relevant legal discipline following appointment.
- Student Advisory: Advise students on academic progression, research ethics, and career development; supervise field trips, placements, and practical projects.
2. Research, Scholarly Publications & Grant Acquisition
- Scholarly Publishing: Conduct high-impact legal research and publish regularly in peer-reviewed law journals.
- Grant & Accreditation Proposals: Draft and submit competitive research proposals and grant applications to external funding bodies and national/international accreditation agencies.
- Postgraduate Mentorship: Supervise Master's and Doctoral thesis research, serving as primary supervisor through completion.
3. Curriculum, Quality Assurance & Community Outreach
- Curriculum Design: Lead the design, review, and continuous improvement of legal education curricula to align with emerging statutory frameworks and accreditation standards.
- Quality Assurance: Enforce academic quality assurance standards across examination setting, marking, grading, and timely student feedback.
- Community Engagement: Initiate and participate in legal outreach, public interest initiatives, and community development projects.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Academic Credentials & Rank Requirements
- Terminal Degree: Earned PhD in Law (or closely related legal discipline) from a recognized university.
- Academic Track Record: Minimum of seven (7) years of university teaching, research, and public service experience.
- Associate Professor Tenure: At least three (3) years of continuous service at the rank of Associate Professor.
- Demonstrated Leadership: Demonstrated outstanding professional ability or exceptional academic capability in accordance with University Promotion Policies.
Publishing & Postgraduate Supervision Thresholds
- Journal Publications: At least seven (7) publications in peer-reviewed journals within the candidate's area of legal specialization published since promotion to Associate Professor.
- First Authorship: The applicant must be the first author on at least 50% (minimum 4) of the 7 required publications.
- Master's Supervision: Documented record of having supervised at least five (5) Master's degree students to successful completion since promotion to Associate Professor.
