Accounts Manager

Job Summary

The Accounts Manager oversees corporate books of accounts, calculates manufacturing cost metrics per batch, and administers state excise duty filings. This manager coordinates internal and statutory audits, reconciles distributor incentives, maintains rigorous tracking of work-in-progress inventory across fermentation and distillation phases, and audits processing waste and evaporation losses.

Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting & Executive Reporting

• Bookkeeping Integrity: Supervise and validate all core financial ledger operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable streams, accounts receivable tracking, and fixed asset depreciation.
• Statement Assembly: Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, profit-and-loss reports, and balance sheets in full alignment with Indian Accounting Standards.
• Cash Flow Optimization: Execute precise bank reconciliations and daily cash flow modeling to optimize treasury distributions and maintain liquid operational working capital.
• Revenue Recognition: Audit and govern exact revenue recognition procedures, especially matching complex transactional timelines for regional distributor and wholesale market sales.

2. State Excise & Regulatory Compliance

• Duty Administration: Compute, verify, and file state excise duty obligations, navigating the zero-tolerance regulatory protocols applied to alcohol production and dispatch.
• Volume Verification: Maintain accurate and legally binding statutory registers tracking the raw volume production, storage, aging, and commercial dispatch of bulk and bottled spirits.
• Inspector Liaison: Serve as the primary corporate focal point for state excise officials, hosting on-site regulatory inspections, structural plant audits, and physical volume verifications.

3. Indian Taxation & Statutory Filings

• GST Bifurcation: Manage multi-layered Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance. Systematically distinguish between finished products (alcohol for human consumption, which remains outside the scope of GST) and input raw materials, machinery, or services where input tax credit must be accurately claimed or reversed.
• Direct Tax Governance: Oversee on-time preparation, tracking, and execution of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), corporate income tax filings, and other localized statutory revenue returns.
• Audit Alignment: Coordinate closely with external tax consultants, legal advisors, and statutory auditors to resolve processing issues or regulatory queries proactively.

4. Costing, Inventory Control & Loss Analysis

• Batch Expense Tracking: Monitor raw material price variations (including molasses, grains, enzymes, and specialized packaging assets) and calculate accurate per-batch manufacturing costs.
• Work-in-Progress Valuation: Administer meticulous inventory accounting across distinct transformation phases, including raw stores, work-in-progress (fermentation and distillation stages), and finished goods (aged barrels and bottled products).
• Evaporation Audits: Account for, measure, and log operational processing waste and natural evaporation shrinkages—specifically modeling the financial impact of the "angel’s share" during barrel maturation.

5. Leakage Prevention & Stakeholder Governance

• Internal Controls: Design, upgrade, and enforce tight internal financial control systems to eliminate processing leakages, warehouse pilferage, and unaccounted material discrepancies.
• Ledger Reconciliation: Manage supplier payment pipelines and systematically reconcile complex multi-tier distributor accounts, promotional trade incentives, and active credit boundaries.
• Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the internal accounting and invoicing staff, ensuring compliance with strict month-end closing deadlines.

Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites

Required Technical Profile & Experience

• Academic Foundation: Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Master of Commerce (M.Com), or an MBA in Corporate Finance from an accredited institution.
• Professional Credentials: Formal qualifications as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Cost and Management Accountant (CMA) are highly preferred.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of five to ten (5–10) years of progressive, hands-on corporate accounting experience, with clear exposure inside a distillery, brewery, process-based manufacturing plant, or high-volume FMCG corporation.
• Regulatory Mastery: In-depth operational understanding of state-level excise laws, alcohol industry compliance requirements, and federal Indian taxation structures.
• Software Competency: Advanced operational proficiency using enterprise-level ERP software architectures (such as SAP or Tally) alongside expert-level manipulation of Microsoft Excel for financial modeling.
• Disposition: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical habits, a cost-control mindset, and the leadership capacity to manage distributed bookkeeping staff under tight timelines.
