Job Summary
McDermott is hiring a CBI-Driver 2 (Fuel & Water Bowser) in Kampala, Uganda. Requiring a Class C/C1 driving license, fuel/water operational certification, and 2+ years of heavy bowser experience, this role ensures safe equipment refueling, dust suppression, accurate fluid logging, and strict HSE compliance on major energy construction sites.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Fuel Bowser Operations & Equipment Refueling
- Precision Refueling: Execute safe and timely dispensing of fuel to nominated plant equipment, machinery, and site generators according to strict technical specifications.
- Inventory Control & Logging: Accurately populate daily fuel logs, check fluid levels, and track fuel issuance to prevent theft, wastage, or unauthorized usage.
- Static & Spill Safety: Follow strict grounding procedures during fuel transfer to prevent static discharge, and maintain immediate readiness to deploy spill response kits in accordance with environmental policies.
- Daily Inspections: Conduct routine mechanical checks on tires, brakes, fuel hoses, dispensing nozzles, and pump function, reporting faults immediately to the Driver Supervisor.
2. Water Bowser Operations & Environmental Control
- Dust Suppression: Coordinate with the MDR Construction Superintendent to suppress high-dust areas across nominated project locations using water spray bars and pressure systems.
- Equipment Integrity: Inspect water tanks, pumps, pressure systems, and spray bars daily to maintain clean and reliable vehicle operation.
- Reporting & Tracking: Maintain daily records of water volume used and coverage areas completed, reporting shortages or site constraints to the Logistics Coordinator.
3. Safety, Compliance & Site Integration
- HSE Adherence: Actively participate in morning toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site risk assessments.
- Zero-Fee Ethical Recruitment: Comply with McDermott’s recruitment policy (McDermott never charges recruitment or placement fees to applicants).
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Track Record & Technical Competencies
- Licensing Credentials: Valid Uganda Driving License for heavy trucks (Class C and C1).
- Certifications: Formal certificate or completed training in fuel and water handling/operations.
- Practical Experience: Minimum 2 years of direct experience operating heavy fuel and water bowsers on industrial, energy, or civil infrastructure project sites.
- HSE Competency: Practical knowledge of fire safety, static control, fluid spill containment, and environmental protection procedures.
- Communication & Detail: Strong attention to detail with good written and spoken English skills for completing operational log sheets and engaging with site supervisors.
- Personal Attributes: Reliability, strong safety ethos, high personal integrity, and the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.
