Dental Hygienist

Job Summary

The Dental Hygienist manages cleanings, scalings, and polishings; diagnostic dental radiographs; clinical oral disease screenings; official government medical/dental record jackets; sterilization workflows; and OSHA/infection control compliance logs. Core duties include performing direct clinical preventative care, maintaining highly accurate and auditable records, and coordinating patient management with the on-site military dental team.

Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities

1. Preventive Clinical Care & Diagnostic Radiography

• Perform complete oral prophylactic procedures, including meticulous scaling, root planing, and polishing to prevent and treat periodontal disease.
• Conduct clinical oral health assessments and screenings, identifying signs of cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis, or other oral pathology.
• Expose, develop, and evaluate diagnostic dental x-rays in strict compliance with safety, radiation protection, and quality standards.
• Deliver targeted oral hygiene counseling and education to a diverse workforce, demonstrating effective brushing, flossing, and long-term maintenance practices.

2. Government Records Management & Regulatory Compliance

• Create, update, and systematically maintain individual Medical/Dental record jackets for all contract employees arriving on Diego Garcia.
• Ensure all files are audit-ready for government inspection, integrating pre-employment physicals, medical histories, dental x-rays, occupational surveillance statuses, and treatment logs.
• Clear and visible marking of record jackets with critical medical markers, including severe allergies, blood type, and active occupational surveillance enrollment dates.
• Document all provided treatments, clinical observations, and diagnostic outcomes immediately to maintain record integrity and continuity of care.

3. Clinic Operations & Environmental Health Safety

• Sterilize, disinfect, and organize dental instruments and equipment in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and strict infection control protocols.
• Maintain clinical equipment in optimal working order, troubleshooting minor equipment variances and managing supply levels.
• Partner directly with on-site dentists to coordinate comprehensive dental care and follow-up treatment plans.
• Support a culture of absolute safety, complying with Amentum’s Quality Management System, participating in buddy-aid training, and adhering to environmental policies.

Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites

Required Technical Profile & Academic Background

• Education & Licensure: Completed an accredited Dental Hygienist program and hold an active, valid Dental Hygienist license matching U.S. standards.
• Professional Experience: 1–3 years of clinical experience as a practicing Dental Hygienist, including routine cleanings, deep scaling, and preventative patient education.
• Specialized Certification: Active certification in dental radiography with demonstrated proficiency in taking and developing dental x-rays.
• International Mobility: Must possess a valid passport (minimum of 1-year validity remaining at the time of hire) and have the ability to travel internationally.
• Physical & Medical Clearance: Must successfully pass comprehensive contract-specific medical evaluations and maintain health compliance throughout the deployment.

Preferred Technical Attributes

• Austere Environment Track Record: Prior clinical experience working in remote, austere OCONUS settings with a multi-national or expatriate workforce.
• Military Record Systems: Familiarity with NAVMED regulations, military medical charting, or government record keeping, adhering to HIPAA and strict privacy standards.
• Life Support Certification: Active CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Electronic Health Records (EHR): Experience utilizing electronic health record systems to update, track, and retrieve patient medical history.
• Licensing Logistics: Valid driver's license and applicable country visas matching the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
