Job Summary
DHL Global Forwarding is hiring a full-time Import/Export Operations Specialist in Kampala, Uganda. Managing end-to-end freight operations within CargoWise One (CW1), the role handles carrier bookings, shipping documentation (MBL/HBL), customs coordination, milestone updates, customer pre-alerts, and billing. Candidates require a Bachelor's degree and 3–5 years of logistics experience.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Import & Export Execution
- Shipment Movement Coordination: Arrange pickup from customer locations to final delivery or coordinate directly with shipping lines for export shipments.
- Carrier Bookings: Secure bookings with carriers and maintain accurate booking records and remarks in CargoWise One (CW1).
- Documentation Management: Prepare, quality-check, and complete export documentation prior to lodging with shipping lines. Process Master Bills of Lading (MBL) and House Bills of Lading (HBL) per operational procedures.
2. Customs & Compliance Alignment
- CDZ Team Collaboration: Share shipping documentation with the Customs Declaration Zone (CDZ) team to facilitate accurate customs entries and clearance processing.
- e-Doc Digitalization: Upload all relevant shipping documents into the CW1 e-Doc repository.
- Milestone & Tracking Management: Update all operational milestones within stipulated targets, monitor shipment progress through final delivery, and issue timely pre-alerts to clients.
3. Customer Service & Financial Closure
- Client Relationship & Escalations: Maintain strong relationships with existing clients, communicate regular status updates as agreed during onboarding, and resolve customer enquiries or complaints.
- Billing & File Resolution: Bill and close shipments in CW1 upon shipment readiness, resolve "sick files" promptly, and ensure file closure compliance.
- System Support: Assist the Head of Products and Global Service Center (GSC) with CW1 system updates, testing, and file allocation tasks.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
- Professional Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in freight forwarding and import/export operations.
- Product Knowledge: Solid understanding of Ocean Freight (OFR) and Road Freight (RFR) import and export workflows.
- Regulatory Expertise: Strong knowledge of Ugandan and regional customs regulations.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office Tools; high accuracy and speed in data processing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with CargoWise One (CW1) logistics software.
- EAFFPC Certificate (East Africa Freight Forwarding Practicing Certificate).
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.
