Job Summary
The Internal Auditor executes objective, risk-based audit procedures in line with the Group Internal Audit (GIA) methodology. The role evaluates the design and operating effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls, identifies the root causes of control gaps, negotiates practical corrective actions with management, and produces clear, evidence-based audit findings to support risk management across various business units.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Audit Execution & GIA Methodology
- Execute assigned business audit procedures and testing programs in strict accordance with GIA methodologies, policies, and professional standards.
- Conduct detailed process walkthroughs, review operational documentation, and perform transaction testing to assess control effectiveness.
- Formulate clear, well-documented audit working papers that articulate identified facts, test parameters, and logical conclusions.
2. Risk Assessment & Scope Development
- Collaborate with business unit leaders to map operational, financial, compliance, conduct, and strategic risks.
- Assist in developing comprehensive, risk-based audit scopes by identifying key risk areas and critical system controls.
- Analyze complex financial and operational data sets to detect anomalies, process inefficiencies, or potential areas of vulnerability.
3. Root Cause Analysis & Stakeholder Management
- Identify the systemic root causes of control failures rather than merely reporting isolated symptoms.
- Formulate practical, commercially balanced remedial recommendations and gain alignment and commitment from business management.
- Build and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders to remain closely informed of changing business processes and strategic objectives.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Technical Profile & Experience
- Academic Foundation: First Degree (Bachelor’s) in Accounting, Finance, Audit, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Technical Core: Strong grasp of internal auditing standards, risk-based auditing concepts, internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), and business process analysis.
- Behavioral Strengths: Natural aptitude for examining complex information, interpreting data, documenting factual evidence with absolute clarity, and adopting highly practical problem-solving approaches.
Desired Attributes
- Professional Credentials: Post-graduate certifications completed or actively in progress (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIA, or equivalent professional qualifications) are highly advantageous.
- Industry Experience: Prior internal audit or risk assurance experience gained inside a commercial banking environment, financial services institution, or a "Big 4" professional accounting firm.
