Senior Organisational Development Practitioner

Job Summary

Canonical is hiring a full-time, remote Senior Organisational Development Practitioner based in the Americas or EMEA regions. Working centrally and embedded inside business units, the role diagnoses leadership effectiveness, coaches directors to management excellence, and mentors field practitioners across a 1,200+ person distributed software company. Candidates require an outstanding academic background, deep hands-on executive coaching experience, and readiness for up to 4 global travel sprints per year.

Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities

1. Executive Coaching & Leadership Excellence

• Direct Leadership Coaching: Coach leaders to elevate performance against Canonical’s management excellence standards.
• Constructive Conversations & Feedback: Guide leaders through challenging interpersonal/operational conversations and transform 360-degree feedback into followed-through action plans.
• Behavioral Change Tracking: Measure and deliver observable behavioral changes across senior management tiers.

2. Organizational Diagnosis & Field Embedding

• Org-Wide Diagnostics: Conduct initial-weeks diagnostics of embedded organizations to identify leadership gaps and drive custom development plans.
• Distributed Operations: Define and roll out modern ways of working tailored for a fully remote, fast-paced technical environment.
• Practice Feedback Loop: Synthesize field learnings from embedded assignments to update Canonical’s broader management framework.

3. Practice Leadership & Practitioner Development

• Field Mentorship: Supervise and mentor junior/field talent practitioners to raise OD craft standards across the company.
• Standard Ownership: Define what exceptional coaching looks like across Canonical, proving methodologies in real business scenarios.
• Learning Materials Direction: Oversee learning design judgment for development materials, leveraging AI for production drafting.

Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Academic Excellence: Exceptional academic track record from high school through university.
• Hands-on OD & Coaching: Demonstrated track record of directly coaching directors and senior leaders (not just program design).
• Influence Without Authority: Proven ability to step into technical/commercial business units and build instant credibility with senior executives.
• Development Philosophy: Clear, honest approach to talent—knowing when coaching builds capability versus when role/fit decisions are required.
• Global Travel Readiness: Willingness and capability to travel internationally up to 4 times per year for in-person team sprints and organizational alignment.
• Language & Communication: Native or full professional fluency in written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in top-tier management consulting (comfortable with ambiguity, rapid diagnostics, and executive proposals).
• Experience coaching within fast-moving, globally distributed tech or engineering enterprises.
• Track record in designing competency frameworks, development materials, and interactive workshops (in-person and virtual).
