Associate Research Manager For Ethiopia

Job Summary

The Associate Research Manager manages multi-sectoral assessment tools, qualitative saturation grids, quantitative data analysis sheets (R, SPSS, STATA), Rapid Needs Assessments (RNAs), trend briefs, and confidential donor prioritization logs. Core duties include supervising a dedicated team of Senior Analysts and Information Management (IM) Officers; processing primary and secondary crisis data; providing technical support to the Ethiopia Rapid Response Mechanism (ET-RRM); and tracking socio-political adjustments across East Africa.

Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities

1. Research Cycle Management & HAPT Project Launch

• Lead the end-to-end implementation of IMPACT’s flagship analytical workflows, managing research design, tool building, field data collection, and multi-layered analysis.
• Oversee the setup of the Humanitarian Analysis and Prioritization Team (HAPT), compiling light, rapid, and actionable products to navigate shrinking data collection landscapes.
• Formulate Acute Needs Analysis briefs and regular crisis zoom-ins, translating raw secondary data into clear geographic prioritization maps.
• Provide direct assessment management and technical advisory support to the Ethiopia Rapid Response Mechanism (ET-RRM) partners.

2. Operational Team Leadership & Capacity Building

• Direct, mentor, and supervise the day-to-day operations of the analytical unit, including Senior Analysts, Assessment Officers, and IM Professionals.
• Drive capacity-building schedules across the broader Ethiopia mission, improving the team's ability to interpret statistical outputs and implement qualitative evaluation methods.
• Maintain strict, non-negotiable confidentiality protocols on all primary datasets, preventing unauthorized sharing of partner or institutional assets.

3. High-Level Internal & External Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate autonomously with IMPACT HQ departments in Geneva and global hosting teams from ACTED to ensure full alignment with financial, safety, and HR requirements.
• Represent the HAPT team externally, presenting analytical findings to strategic actors, including UN-OCHA, international donor consortiums, and key humanitarian clusters.

Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites

Required Technical Profile & Academic Track

• Core Education: Master’s degree in a relevant social science, international relations, development, statistics, or humanitarian discipline.
• Research Mastery: Proven background managing complex research cycles and interpreting statistical datasets. Full familiarity with qualitative analysis methods (e.g., saturation grid systems or dedicated qualitative software) is strictly required.
• Software Toolkit: Highly proficient across the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Practical comfort reading outputs from advanced data toolkits (R, SPSS, STATA) is necessary, while design software experience (InDesign) is an asset.
• Sector Longevity: Minimum of three (3) years of active professional experience in humanitarian aid systems, multi-sectoral vulnerability assessments, or field-level research.

Compensation & Institutional Benefits

• Financial Remuneration: Monthly base salary ranging between 2,940 CHF and 3,000 CHF (before income tax), strictly bound to the internal IMPACT salary grid, supplemented by a 300 USD monthly living allowance.
