Field Coordinator

Job Summary

The Field Coordinator manages field-level agroforestry and community initiatives (including improved cookstoves, beekeeping, Village Savings and Loan Associations [VSLAs], and income-generating activities). This coordinator supervises field teams, verifies spatial and survey data quality using digital tools (KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, GIS), manages local cooperative and authority relationships, tracks project KPIs, and ensures compliance with contractual ESG/insetting commitments.

Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities

1. Agroforestry & Project Quality Management

• Field Execution: Direct, supervise, and expand agroforestry interventions alongside complementary community initiatives (improved cookstoves, beekeeping, VSLA networks, and alternative income generation).
• Quality & Compliance: Guarantee that field activities strictly comply with contractual commitments, carbon/insetting standards, and internal PUR execution benchmarks.
• Data Management & Verification: Oversee the collection, quality control, and reporting of project KPIs, field observations, georeferenced photos, and survey data using digital data collection tools (Kobo, SurveyCTO, GIS).

2. Team Leadership & Operational Capacity Building

• Field Supervision: Train, mentor, and manage field staff and local implementing partner teams to ensure high-quality project execution.
• Planning & HR Admin: Organize regular field team meetings, support country/regional teams with operational forecasting, and handle local HR administrative tasks (leave tracking, field logs).
• Process Improvement: Continuously adapt and refine data collection tools and field workflows to resolve operational bottlenecks proactively.

3. External Stakeholder Engagement & Field Representation

• Community & Partner Relations: Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with local coffee cooperatives, smallholder farmers, local government authorities, consultants, and NGOs.
• Client & Communication Feedback: Provide authentic field insights, high-quality data, and observational reporting to support client deliverables and impact communications.
• Technical Representation: Represent PUR at technical events, regional agricultural forums, and stakeholder workshops as requested by management.

Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites

Required Technical Profile & Experience

• Academic Credentials: Master’s degree or equivalent in Agronomy, Agriculture, Agroforestry, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
• Field Experience Baseline: 3 to 5 years of experience in project management or advisory roles in Uganda, or in the field implementation of agricultural/environmental projects internationally.
• Sector Specialization: Direct experience working within coffee value chains, sustainable agricultural development, or farmer cooperative management.
• Operational Capabilities: Strong operational management skills (planning, tracking targets, KPI reporting, and proactive problem-solving in dynamic rural contexts).
• Digital Tooling Proficiency: High proficiency with Microsoft Office, field data collection software (KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO), Google Drive, and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools.
• Language Fluency: Complete fluency in spoken and written English.
• Mobility & Licensing: Must possess a valid motorcycle driving license and have access to a vehicle for field travel.
