Job Summary
The Maintenance Officer / Cleaner is responsible for sanitizing clinical and administrative spaces, handling hospital linens, and ensuring the safe disposal of medical waste. This active, fast-paced role requires high attention to detail, strict compliance with infection control standards, and a customer-service mindset when interacting with patients.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Clinical Sanitization & Housekeeping
- Clean, mop, sweep, and disinfect hospital floors, administrative offices, clinical duty stations, and patient rooms using hospital-approved sanitation methods.
- Deep-clean and sanitize patient restrooms and public washrooms, restocking essential hygiene supplies (toilet paper, hand towels, soap) in a timely manner.
- Keep all supply storage areas organized and report any equipment malfunctions or replenishment needs to the Head of Maintenance & Security.
2. Medical Waste & Hazard Management
- Empty all facility waste receptacles and dustbins regularly.
- Ensure the safe and compliant disposal of hazardous medical waste products in strict accordance with hospital guidelines and clinical safety regulations.
- Respond rapidly to cleaning emergencies, spills, or biohazard concerns to maintain an infection-free environment.
3. Linen & Laundry Operations
- Collect soiled hospital linens and gowns from patient rooms and deliver them safely to the designated laundry facility.
- Wash, iron, fold, and systematically store clean linens and surgical gowns on a daily basis.
- Distribute clean linens and gowns to clinical duty stations to ensure smooth hospital operations.
4. Patient Support & Multitasking
- Address and resolve patient complaints regarding housekeeping or cleanliness immediately, demonstrating strong customer service.
- Assist clinical staff with lifting or carrying patients when requested, maintaining patient dignity and safety protocols.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Technical Profile & Experience
- Professional Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of professional cleaning or facility maintenance experience, preferably within a healthcare or clinical setting.
- Safety & Compliance: Understanding of hygiene protocols, sanitation safety, and basic waste management.
- Communication Skills: Good customer service and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface compassionately with patients and professionally with hospital staff.
- Operational Fitness: Able to work with minimal supervision, manage time effectively, multitask, and work cooperatively within a team.
- Personal Attributes: High level of integrity, self-motivated, organized, and physically fit to manage a demanding workload.
