Job Summary
A leading East African pharmaceutical and industrial manufacturing group is hiring a Group Chief Commercial Officer (GCCO). Reporting to the Group CEO and sitting on the ExCo, the role leads regional commercial strategy, institutional tender bidding, P&L performance, pricing corridors, and Integrated Business Planning (IBP). Requires a relevant Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred) and 15+ years of experience (5+ at Director/ExCo level).
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Executive Leadership & P&L Ownership
- ExCo Governance: Serve on the Executive Committee (ExCo) to define group commercial strategy, evaluate cross-border business development opportunities, and advise the Group CEO on market dynamics.
- P&L & GTN Management: Drive total commercial P&L performance, optimizing Gross-to-Net (GTN) profitability, trade spends, distributor margins, and regional pricing corridors.
- Institutional Bidding: Lead high-value tender strategies for large-scale public sector, health authority, and NGO procurement bids across East Africa.
2. Commercial Alignment & Operational Synergy
- Integrated Business Planning (IBP): Oversee the IBP framework to ensure seamless alignment between market demand forecasts, supply chain capability, and plant production capacity.
- Market Access & Exports: Identify new regional geographic markets, value-added manufacturing initiatives, export corridors, and product portfolio diversification opportunities.
- Brand & Sales Management: Direct branding initiatives, marketing campaigns, product positioning, and sales force effectiveness across all business units.
3. Stakeholder Governance & Team Leadership
- Partner Relations: Build strategic relationships with key accounts, distribution networks, regulatory bodies, and industrial partners.
- Talent Mentorship: Mentor and lead the commercial organization, enforcing clear KPI frameworks, succession planning, and performance management.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all commercial policies, pricing strategies, and sales operations strictly adhere to statutory, regulatory, and corporate governance standards.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Business, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or a related Science discipline. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) or related post-graduate degree is highly desirable.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial leadership, with at least 5 years operating at the ExCo or Board Director level within manufacturing or pharmaceutical environments.
- Commercial Expertise: Expertise in P&L ownership, GTN optimization, institutional government/NGO tenders, and modern ERP systems.
- Leadership Capabilities: Exceptional negotiation skills, financial acumen, strategic vision, and a proven ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary regional teams.
